How far you walk for candy depends on the species, and how far you walk to hatch depends on the egg. These distances are stable game mechanics — only the species pools change.

Buddy candy
Buddy walking distances
Your buddy earns one candy per set distance. Distances are halved while your buddy is Excited (full hearts), so an Excited 20 km buddy drops to 10 km per candy.

Magikarp at 1 km per candy is the most efficient walk for a big candy goal (Magikarp evolves into Gyarados for 400 candy).

Egg hatch distances
You can hatch any egg by walking the listed distance with it in an incubator. The exact species change with every event, so treat the examples as the usual tier feel rather than a live list.

Berries
Razz Berry steadies a catch, Pinap doubles catch candy, Nanab calms a jumpy Pokémon, and Golden Razz is best saved for raids and rare catches.
Lucky Eggs
Double XP for 30 minutes. Stack with mass evolutions, a friendship level-up, or a research reward dump for the biggest XP payoff.

Buddy & egg FAQ
How do I make my buddy Excited?
Fill its heart meter for the day with activities like walking, playing, feeding berries, taking a snapshot and battling. An Excited buddy halves candy walking distance until the hearts reset.
Does walking with the app closed count?
Yes, if Adventure Sync is on. It reads your phone's step count, so buddy distance and egg distance accrue even when Pokémon GO isn't open.
Which egg should I put in my infinite incubator?
Shorter 2 km and 5 km eggs — the free incubator never runs out, so use limited incubators on the longer 10 km and 12 km eggs to bank more distance per charge.
